CULTURE of RAJASTHAN
RAJASTHAN – The land of royalty is a glittering jewel set in the golden sands of a baren deserts landscape. Its cultural heritage has been sustained and is rich over for centuries. The essential part that has emerged into the lives of the folks here is the RAJASTHANI ARTS,CULTURE AND CRAFTS. The colours,unique in concept and workmanship , the arts and handicrafts in rajasthan are beyond compare.
Rajasthani Culture had glorious history. It is known for many brave Kings, their deeds, and their interest in art and architecture. It’s name means “the land of rajas”. It was also called Rajputana. It is in the top for tourist attraction. It is also rich in it’s flora and fauna with some of popular wildlife sanctuaries and national parks.
Rajasthan(Culture) is also famous for it’s unique dance styles. The Ghoomar dance from Udaipur and Kalbeliya dance of Jaisalmer have gained international recognition. Folk music is a vital part of Rajasthani culture. Kathputali, Bhopa, Chang ,Teratal, Ghindar, Kachchhighori dance etc. are the examples of the traditional Rajasthani culture. Folk songs are commonly ballads which relate heroic deeds and love stories; and religious or devotional songs known as bhajans and banis are also sung.
Rajasthan is very famous for textiles, it’s stones and handicrafts and for it’s traditional colour art. Rajasthani furniture has intricate carvings and bright colours. Different types of printings are also famous like dye prints, bagaru prints, Sanganer prints which are major export from Rajasthan. The blue pottery of Jaipur is particularly noted.

A Rajasthani traditional dress for females comprises an ankle length skirt and a short top, also known as Lahanga or a Choli. A piece of cloth is used to cover the head, both for protection from heat and maintainance of modesty called chunari. Rajasthani dresses are usually designed in bright colours like blue, yello and orange. Their traditional dresses are entirely different from other state traditional dresses. Rajasthani dresses add colour to the Rajasthani culture.The State game of Rajasthan is Basketball. Rajasthan produced many famous players. In villages the common games played are Gilli Danda, kite flying, kho kho, kabaddi etc. Gilli Danda is a very famous game in which a small wooden stick is to be hitted by a big one and who hit it to a large distnce without missing it is declared as a winner. Some other games played by Children are Luka Chhipi and Sitoliya.
Rajasthan is also famous for it’s unique type of food prepared in pots made with mud. The mostly eaten food is Daal Baati which have a unique taste and it is a identity of Rajasthan. Other kinds of foods eaten in Rajasthan are Corn Pone(Makka Roti), Jwaar Chapati, Baajra chapati etc. Many sweets are also famous here. Rajasthani food have a very good taste and it gives a unique identity to Rajasthan in whole world.
