FatehSagar Lake is the second artificial lake of Udaipur, the first being Jaisamand lake. Located in the north of Lake Pichola, FatehSagar Lake lies just besides the entrance to Moti Magri Hill. Built in 1678 by Maharana Jai Singh, FatehSagar Lake got its name from MaharanaFateh Singh, who later made additions to it.

This Lake said to be the pride of the City of Lakes of Udaipur, it is an artificial lake constructed by Maharana in north of Lake Pichola in 1678 and to the north-west of Udaipur. A beautiful lake, overlooked by a number of hills on the three sides and the Pratap Memorial on the north was built by Maharana Fateh Singh. In the middle of the lake is Nehru Park – a lovely garden island with a boat shaped cafe accessible by an enjoyable boat ride. Blue waters of the lake and the backdrop of green has given the sobriquet of ‘the second Kashmir’ to Udaipur town. Talking about the statistics of FatehSagar, the lake extends to the length of 2.4 km, 1.6 km. in width and deep to the extent of 11.5 meter. During the monsoons, the lake covers the total area of around 1 sq km.

FatehSagar Lake is well-planned with three intake channels and an overflow channel that is usually brought into play in the rainy season. FatehSagar Lake is embellished by three small islands, which can be reached by taking a boat ride in the lake. The largest island of the lake is developed into a park by the name of Nehru Park. The garden comprises a boat-shaped restaurant and a small zoo for children. This island park is the favourite picnic spot of Udaipur dwellers.

FatehsagarBuilt by Maharana Jai Singh in 1678, FatehSagar Lake is one of the many artificial lakes in Udaipur. It is roughly about 1 square km in size, but the size tends to vary depending on the season and the rainfall in the area. FatehSagar Lake is named after Maharana Fateh Singh who extended the lake during his reign. Located at the foothill of Moti Magri, this lake is very important not only in terms of tourism but also sustaining the water supply in the city.
